There are loads of skin products that you use on the surface of your skin such as a rose water skin toner, or an exfoliant mask. It seems obvious that the way to get better skin is to use a topical product. Although these topical products do a great job, we should also consider getting healthy skin from the inside.
What this means is that diet can cause or contribute to many different skin conditions. If you eat the right foods, then you can actually help your skin and only need skin care products as a supplement. To properly take care of your skin you need to take a holistic approach and treat it from many different angles. In this article, we will go over some of the signs that your diet is affecting your skin.
1. Acne
It would seem that acne is not caused by anything in your diet since it is formed when pores are clogged with dead skin cells and bacteria is allowed to grow there. It seems like it is treatable solely by using a topical treatment since it forms on the surface of your skin.
However, a poor diet plays a direct role in how likely you are to have acne outbreaks. This is especially true when dealing with teenagers since hormones play such a big role and their diet is not usually very healthy. For instance, insulin can cause the body to produce more sebum, the natural oil produced by the skin, and that is what will trap the dead skin cells in the pores.
A lot of processed and sugary foods will spike insulin and start the process of ramping up of insulin. Since this is a diet a lot of teenagers eat, plus the hormones they are experiencing, this is a leading reason why they get somany acne outbreaks.
2. Dry skin
Dry skin happens when the air is dry and wicks away moisture. It then gets itchy and irritated. That is when a lot of people reach for the moisturizing cream. What they should be reaching for is their bottle of water. This is because when you have dry skin it’s almost always because you didn’t drink enough water.
When we are not drinking enough water, the cells in our skin start losing their moisture. Then the air and cold will make it even worse and things get uncomfortable. Make sure that you’re drinking all throughout the day.
3. Bags under the eyes
Bags under the eyes are also a direct result of the skin drying out. You could be drinking plenty of water, however, and still have them. That’s because what you consume can also have a drying effect on your body. For instance, when you drink alcohol, it will dry out your skin. This is the main cause of baggy eyes.
You might think that you just need to get some rest, and that is good advice. However, if you rest and continue to drink alcohol then you will still have those bags under your eyes.
